Your secondment

We view secondments as an essential part of our trainees’ development. It is the perfect way to broaden your practical commercial experience, spending at least six months with one of our clients or in one of our international offices.

You will have the opportunity to complete at least one secondment and you can do this as soon as your second seat. To help you choose one that’s right for you, we hold secondment fairs where you can see all the opportunities available and work out which best suits your interests and aspirations.

Going overseas

Nearly all our transactions have an international element. So a secondment to one of our international offices can help you to think globally and get used to working across diverse jurisdictions. To help you adjust, we provide full support with travel and accommodation, and our trainee development team will be in regular contact to see how you are getting on. Going to a client

A client secondment is an opportunity to experience different environments and working cultures, while learning about the industries we work in first hand. It will help you to see things from a client’s perspective – a vital skill that will prove valuable to you throughout your career with us.

“When it comes to secondments, embrace the opportunity and don’t worry. You’ll have support and advice to guide you whenever you need it. I’m yet to meet someone who hasn’t had a fantastic time on secondment.”
Alice Hunter Johnson, Trainee

“The experience which our trainees gain from secondments is valuable, not only for our relationships with clients and the success of our business, but also the development of our junior talent.”
Martin Scott, Managing partner, Europe, Middle East and Asia

“Your secondment is just one of the ways we’ll help you to broaden your skills and experience. To find out the range of the work you’ll do across every seat, explore our next section, work you will do.
